5 Thoughts from the Week
1. A Great One for Preachers
Bishop Gregory Palmer, is one of the best preachers I’ve ever heard. This week he shared a story of a young preacher who was tasked with preaching the day after another seasoned pastor preached an excellent sermon.
The young man was fearful, and thinking of finding excuses to back out. Then the Holy Spirit said to him, “That preacher may have a better sermon, but he doesn’t have a better gospel.”
2. Another One From Palmer
“What’s going on in the skunk works?”
Skunk Works was popularized by Lockheed Martin. It represents a small branch of an organization where research is done to find innovative ways to improve on what the larger organization is doing.
Bishop Palmer said that every ministry needs a skunk works department so that we can always communicate the old Gospel, in compelling ways.
3. Leaky Water Heater
This week we discovered a leaky water heater. That small discovery was enough for me to begin to think, “WHY ME, LORD!?” Thankfully, the Holy Spirit helped me laugh at myself before actually throwing a pity party.
I’m learning to see all circumstances as a test: Will I maintain joy and confidence in God, or will I fall apart?
4. Great Advice From Frank Laubach
Fix your thoughts upon what ought to come to pass, and not upon the things you dislike. Let the things we oppose die of neglect. For we help everything we think about-even when we are thinking against it! — Frank Laubach
5. Aladdin Musical
We went to see the Aladdin musical this week. I have to admit, it started off a bit “meh,” until the guy playing Genie came onstage. He absolutely changed the energy of the entire room! I love people that can do that!
