This week I started doing daily written scripture reflections. I’m doing them to improve at regularly reflecting on scripture, and also to strengthen my writing muscles for the book I will one day write.
I’m not going to send all of these out by email because I respect your inboxes, but you can be notified on the Substack app if you’ve downloaded it. Here they are if you’re interested:
Monday - A Healthy Disregard of Sin
Tuesday - Shout! For the Lord Has…
Wednesday - The Revelation of Sight
Thursday - What to do When the Manna Stops
Friday - Melting Stony Hearts
1. God Never Gives us too Much to do
This one hit me in the soul this week.
2. God is in Control
Therefore don’t catastrophize when things don’t go your way. Christ is still on the throne.
3. Harry Potter
I finished The Lord of the Rings series last week, thinking of re-reading the Harry Potter series next. What book(s) do you reread on a regular basis?
4. Manual Labor is Rewarding
I took off 3 days this week to do some yard work at home. The rewards you get after finishing work like that feels so good. I don’t often get that feeling at church, so I appreciated the satisfaction of looking upon work done (well).
By the way, this reminds me of something that happened a few years ago. We had a contractor working on our house, his hands were extremely calloused! When my son felt how rough the guys hands were, he said, “my dad’s hands are smooth because he just types all day.” 🫤
5. $1000 for Writing
Although my hands are smooth from typing all day, this past week I passed the $1000 threshold by doing so! $1000 isn’t a lot, but I’ve been blogging since 2012 andI made $0 from 2012 until 6 months ago, so I’m stoked!

I found this quote a number of years ago and I keep it among my reminders: “While it looks like things are out of control, behind the scenes there is a God who has not surrendered his authority.” I don’t know to whom it is attributable but it encourages and reassures me every time I read it.
