“Seek first the kingdom of God and all things shall be yours”. I never thought that path to be narrow. Rather ive felt and believed that God provides us a very wide path and we need to choose wisely.
You’re correct, brother. The way widens after seeking first the Kingdom — the narrow way. In one of CS Lewis’s books some characters enter a room where it is “bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.” I love that illustration of the narrow way leading to infinite opportunities.
Tagore’s writings are full of wisdom. Thanks for pointing out what he says about true freedom.
Jesus said if you abide in my word you are truly my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Tagore’s thoughts help us see that the freedom Jesus was talking about was a freedom to belong to his body, the church. It is a freedom to choose obedience to him over conformity to the world around us. (As Dylan said we all “gotta serve somebody”). It is a freedom that comes from knowing if God has our back eternally, there is nothing others can do to destroy us.
Thanks for the comment. Real freedom is sweet once we discover the way. Also, I was thinking of using a Dylan quote, too. “Freedom just around the corner for you, But with the truth so far off, what good will it do?” — Bob Dylan
As Pilgrim's Progress suggests, the world has many diversions to take us off the path to salvation. We require mental and spiritual; discipline to remind us to return to the Way.
“True freedom is not about casting off all restraints but about choosing the right ones.” #allofthis

Another great lesson. Thank you!

I wrote about Tagore’s poem about contemplating God’s smile: https://alifeundergodscare.wordpress.com/2023/04/05/tagore-contemplates-gods-smile/
You’ve inspired me to read more of Tagore!
